[iptv-users] 8 port switch

Thanks, Jared:

All the switches I found were $105 or more per device. That's a little
pricey.

As you were thinking, the ZyXEL VSG1435 or BEC 8800N or Comtrend CT-5374 are
all IP TV-capable routers that support at least 2 VLANs and have an Ethernet
port for WAN uplink. That's what we might end up using.

Frank,

Not sure on price- but Zyxel has the ES2108 that looks like it will handle
VLANs:

We have used the small HP managed switches- not for your purposes
specifically, but it should work:

Have you also considered a wireless gateway device? For not much more
money- you can have a wireless N access point built in. You probably don't
need VDSL2, but it has a WAN port for FTTP connectivity. Around $120 I
think:

Jared:

We have the Calix 725 ONTs that have just one Ethernet port. It's our
understanding that if we want to add IP video to their Internet connection
we need to have a VLAN-capable switch to split out the two traffic flows.

If that's the case, can anyone recommend a low-end VLAN-capable switch to do
so?

Glenn,

We have been using D-link DES-1105 switches. We have used them a few years
now and have several hundred deployed with our DSL and IPTV customers, and
have been surprisingly trouble-free. They are around $13-20 at Newegg/CDW.

We have been using Encore 8 port switches for our IPTV installs. They have
been costing us under $13 ea. Have noticed issues when the power blinks and
the switch will lock up. Just have to reboot the switch and it starts
working again. If the power goes all the way off we do not seem to have this
problem. Anyone else have these issues? What switches do you use and where
do you get them?
