Right this moment I looked at new email-thread on MPLS list "fast re-route merging".
What popped up in my mind:
The smallest size tree road system is, in practice, BI-DIRECTIONAL. It should be feasable to
crank back:  Either   IP-in-IP or some new TYPE information may be applied.The packet's source and destination 
address fields may be exchanged at the point of congestion. The packet may be returned to where the associated overflow road system can be entered. There, source and destination address fields have to be exchanged once again and the packet may be
forwarded with the alternate DSCP along the associated alternate road system.

Wouldn't this be a nice add-on ?
