Actually, if you happen to have a working M series with the same RE
around (or perhaps even with a different RE, although I haven't tried
that myself), you can use fdisk and newfs on the new disk and just use
dd to copy the workin M serie's disk's first 1024 bytes to the new disk
and copy the info for the disklabel over as well. Then run an fsck so
the partition is marked clean and you're off. It's a bit hairy but not
impossible :-)
