Hmmm, have you actually looked at the financial records of the various
publicly traded telecom companies? Most of them are not doing well - even
the ones who have already gone through bankruptcy.

MCI is bleeding heavily and is a takeover target - this is after going
through BK once already and shedding billions in debt. One large networking
company actually started purchasing software companies (companies that have
*real* earnings) in an attempt to prop up its bottom line.

The fact that the  surviving service providers haven't yet gone bankrupt -
only means that they haven't gone bankrupt - yet.
