Hello,
I think you're talking about fxp1 !!! Permanent interfaces in Juniper are fxp0 (external, for management issues), fxp1 and fxp2 or bcm0 and ecm0 in T-series (internal, linking both RE boxes and PFE boards).
Fxp0 could be disabled, also because if it's not connected to a LAN router bears a minor alarm: in working network, however, it's not a good behaviour.

Hi Alex,
If you disable the fxp0 interface, routing won't work. This is an internal interface between all the packet forwarding engine (all the chassis hardware components) and the routing routing software, which runs on the routing engine.
