That seems useful - however, as far as I can read the documentation it
will only solve part of our problem (forcing a reboot on hard disk
errors). After the reboot the ATA hard disk is not detected at all, and
I don't see any solution for this :-) other than RMAing the RE.

Also, this knob is new in 7.3 as far as I can see. I'm afraid we're not
going to run 7.3 on production routers until 7.3R2.x is out.
