Oops.

For the archives, It turns out that MDT SAFI support is only present on 
12.2(33)S IOS releases, which is not running on this box:

Prior to that (also documented in the above URL), Cisco uses a 
non-standard method to auto-discover PEs - an RD type 2 plus an extended 
community attribute containing the MDT group.

I don't suppose anyone knows if the Juniper can interoperate with this 
hack? If not, it's not a problem - I can wait until the 12.2(33) release 
for the 6500s for MVPN on this network.
