Two suggestions that we use:

1. RANCID (http://www.shrubbery.net/rancid) - Open source, works with
several types of routers/switches/MUXes/etc. Can be scheduled to run at
any time, stores configs, emails changes, and when used in conjunction
with CVSWeb, the configs can be seen and compared on a website. Been
using this for years and not once had a problem with it. The only
downside is that for gear that isn't in the currently "supported" list,
some coding has to be done to get it to work.

2. Cirrus Configuration Policy Manager (http://www.solarwinds.net) -
Closed source, very good at not only everything above (with the
exception of viewing the config comparisons online), but also for
forming configuration policies. You can create a policy template, run
it against all your routers/switches and ensure that they all match your
pre-defined security or administrative policies. Also works with *any*
device you can telnet/ssh to - not just certain types of
routers/switches.
