The SUP720 is grossly underpowered (600MHz, MIPS) in the
control plane department. We've found it to be quite slow
in some cases as well.
Cisco's new RSP720 (only for the 7600 platform) is beefier
(1.2GHz, PPC). But we haven't used it, so I can't comment
on how much better it is in the field.
