On some messages the "address" is clearly the interface MAC address, on
others is is quite a bit longer and more mysterious

Some of these interfaces are internal links (speaking ISIS etc), while
others are external links speaking nothing more than eBGP. Some messages
log no interface at all, but only no-interface or ae's ever seem to get
logged, not non-ae's:
