JunOS doesn't provide part numbers (show chassis hardware models) for
pluggable optics. I'm wondering how people track the part #s for
pluggable optics for sparing & inventory purposes? You can use the
Juniper manufacturing # (ex 740-031981), but this could change over time
due to later revisions. Maybe using the pluggable optic description
(SFP+-10G-LR) is the best option?

show chassis hardware
Item Version Part number Serial number Description
  PIC 2 BUILTIN BUILTIN 4x 10GE(LAN)
  SFP+
    Xcvr 0 REV 01 740-031981 2ZT817101261 SFP+-10G-LR
    Xcvr 1 REV 01 740-031981 2ZT817102631 SFP+-10G-LR

Take, the SFP+-10G-SR optic as another example. When 740-021308 is
installed in a MX960 then it has Juniper part # SFPP-10GE-SR according
to the following datasheets, but when installed in a EX8216 switch, the
optic part # changes to EX-SFP-10GE-SR.
