The University of Maryland, College Park, Information Technology, seeks a NMS Developer/Administrator to provide overall support for the University’s NMS (CA Spectrum and eHealth). This position will act as the lead developer, maintaining the suite of NMS tools that the Network Operation Center (NOC) uses to support the network infrastructure. This position will administer and develop the university’s site and/or assist in the administration and development of the overall NMS, customize it to meet the needs of both internal users and end users, and extend the system as technologies and business practices evolve. This position will also provide day-to-day support for Spectrum and eHealth, prepare reports, participate in review meetings, and provide support for other NOC related activities as defined by management. This position will establish and recommend policies on NMS system use and services, provide training for NOC engineers and other staff on Spectrum, eHealth and other tools in use, recognize and troubleshoot problems with the tool, and establish and document standards and procedures for management review. Additional responsibilities will include creating, recommending, and implementing process refinement opportunities for more efficient monitoring, identifying and incorporating automation opportunities and monitoring proactively to reduce the amount of hands-on support and eliminate outages or service variations. On-call responsibilities will include providing 24x7 engineering support when required for this critical NMS and supplemental operational support for all other NOC supported systems.
To be eligible, the candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, or the equivalent combination of experience, education and training. Candidate must have a minimum of three years or more experience with a technical organization in the capacity of a NMS Developer/Administrator, experience with planning, implementing and supporting a large enterprise environment, and preferred experience with CA Spectrum and eHealth tools. Candidate must have familiarity with fundamental networking/server monitoring and creating the templates for monitoring all the hardware and software elements, the ability to troubleshoot the tool by self and by coordinating with vendor support, the ability to guide and train the team on CA Spectrum and eHealth administration and the ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl, Shell). Candidate should be comfortable with most aspects of monitoring tool administration, for example, configuring and implementing alerts for all the required hardware and software components. They should have programming experience in any applicable language, experience with system design & architecture, experience with enterprise management tools such as Tivoli, HP-OpenView or Solarwinds, and experience with Cisco routers and switches. Experience with converged (voice/video/data) networks is a major plus. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented, have good oral and written communication skills, good organization and problem solving skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the campus, from technical to executive management. This candidate should also have the ability to work in a fast-paced, open-ended team environment and be results focused, flexible and adaptable.
Starting salary is $85,600 and up, and is commensurate with experience. Excellent leave, medical coverage, retirement, and tuition remission benefits.
