I totally agree.  My presumption has always been that these status pages are automatically updated with information no more than 5 minutes old, but I've now re-adjusted my expectations.

And if the purpose of such status pages on websites for such vendor was to
actually provide information, rather than to give the vendor's unwashed 
customer base a warm, moist feeling, then that would be a great idea.  :-)
