The smaller towns in MA have a long, proud, tradition of a high
percentage of volunteer fire fighting. While all the fire fighters
(professional and volunteer) have demonstrated competency,
I have to wonder if the town has quite the depth of contact
information that (a department like) FDNY has. Does the
town out-source dispatch to a larger organization, or do a
set of local communities share a (still small) dispatch unit?
Details matter before one can draw conclusions.
