I read a couple of different news stories ... no real clarity on the actual
problem, but it seems to have been network related.
Comcast released this statement to CBS12:
We are trying to gather details and information to share with
you on the status of our service. Please let your audience
know that we are doing everything possible to restore their
service as quickly as possible.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., Comcast said services appear to be coming back on
line.
"We're continuing to investigate what appears to be a
temporary network interruption that impacted some of our
services this morning. Our engineers have been working on
this and services are starting to be restored. We
apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our
customers."
Comcast gave an update at 1:30 p.m. to CBS12, saying its service from West
Palm Beach to Miami-Dade County should be restored.
"We have repaired the temporary network interruption
that impacted some of our services this morning. Our
engineers continue to work on this issue and almost
all services have already been restored. We apologize
for any inconvenience this has caused our customers."

Comcast's official support website acknowledged the outage, but did not
offer specifics on who was affected and when service would be restored. The
statement reads:
"We're working to make your experience even better.
An update is currently underway and what you're
trying to access isn't available right now. We'll
have everything back up and running in just a few
hours, so please try back later. Thanks for your
understanding as we work to make this the best
customer experience possible."

According to Comcast's website, the outage reports began at 6:20 a.m. MDT.
Within just an hour, they had more than 400 outages reported. <snip> As of
11:22 a.m., the outage was fixed. While some Internet outages have been
reported, the majority of reports seemed to be unavailable cable channels.

Though I will note that they appear to be starting to recover. I had seen
some messages suggesting this might have been a blown endpoint firmware
upgrade, so I wasn't sure how that was gonna play out.
