BTW, in the past I had an SE100 that was unable to find its internal
compact flash after having moved the chassis around a few times.

I was able to get it to boot from the CF again without opening the chassis
by taking out all the MICs and using a long soft plastic tool (OK, it was
the back of a pen...) to reach inside the chassis and firmly push the
internal CF back into place in the card slot (which IIRC doesn't have a
retaining bracket; bad Redback no biscuit!  Have a look at a Juniper
routing engine sometime for the proper way to hold these things in place). 
It boots fine now & I've never had a problem with it after that (of course
it's lived in a rack since then without being moved).
