[VoiceOps] Frontier TDM -> SIP

Oh, for sure. If the technical capabilities don't exist, it'll never happen. If they do, it probably still won't happen, but for other reasons. I was just meaning from the "spending a dime" aspect.

This is far from assured.

But even where so, you must surely be aware that technical capabilities alone dictate very little in this world. First and foremost are political, economic, bureaucratic, and regulatory considerations. Whether some piece of equipment can technically do something is almost beside the point to the decision-making process in large organisations.

Are they not already running SIP capable switches at tandem sites?

To be honest? I'll bet they get rid of the concepts of ILEC/RBOC and CLEC before we see them step away from T1 trunking. They don't want to sink another penny into their legacy networks and they don't want to run tandems for everyone else. Anything they can do to push you away from connecting to the old stuff they will.

Well, that sucks. Did I miss some VZ news that would have affected this?

With Frontier pushing this off however, I wonder which ROBC will be the first to break and offer SIP interconnection. It has to happen at some point, although at this rate, I'm not sure if "sometime this decade" is too much to hope for.

This will no longer happen in 2025. Not sure if it's related to Verizon or not.

Maybe they finally realized they were giving all their business away to
Sinch and InfoBip and that it was going to start costing them money if
they didn't move away from SS7. After all who has more switches to pay
for than the ILECs and RBOCs?
