You'd think so wouldn't you, other systems have been doing this over ten
years.  I'm still amazed CCM isn't. CCM5 maybe?

Hi all,
is there a way of making a local database of names/telephone numbers so when
an incoming call comes, the caller's name displays in the called ip phone
instead of the caller's number?

in cm 4.x, check what fields you want displayed on the destinatoin 
phone.  However, this is only available if it is provided in the 
incoming call information from your carrier.

If you want to lookup numbers against an internal database and display

I think that it must be to easy and that it must be included!! You are
saying that is impossible? I cannot believe this! After so much thousands of
Euros (USDs)!!!
