[cisco-voip] Fax Machine Blues

Are you setup for fax relay or passthrough? With both, the connection
and audio registers on the ata need to be configured to match however
your gateway is setup for ralay or passthrough (as well as redundancy
if you are using that option). My opinion passthrough is the best.

I had a similar problem with the ata188's where I had a mismatch
between the gateway and the 188's for passthrough and relay. If the
ata is set one way and the gateway is another, the call will not go
out.

Check out the Cisco documentation site for Voice and look at the
Ata186/188 admin guide. Specificly in that doc look under the section
heading "Configuring and Debuging Fax Services". It has the
description of the config registers on the ata's and some quick things
to check on the gateway depending its setup (h323, mgcp, sip).
