[cisco-voip] CM/IPT monitoring tools

We use Prognosis (http://www.prognosis.com/).

It is very configurable and you can really drill down to what alerts you
want to send and the thresholds for sending alerts.

Not sure about setting it up to show you when specific phones
de-register but it has a facility to show large number of phones going
off line which you set as well as when the MGCP port stops listening,
ICCP port being down, etc.

It has a "dashboard" of sorts which allows you to manipulate and see
whatever is present on the CM/cluster. This can be accessed via a client
or a web page.

We have it integrated into our monitoring system (SMARTS) and Prognosis
sends traps to it so the NMC can see alerts and raise tickets on them
without loading it up.

One drawback... they have per phone licensing and there isn't an
"unlimited" bundle which would suit us fine but our AM has been quite
sympathetic and is open to discussion on bundle discounts with the more
licenses we buy.

I was going to actually test Cisco Operations Manager in the lab to see
how it compares but seeing that I haven't heard rave reviews about it,
this is going to be low down on my to do list.

Ps. If you are going to contact them, ensure that you mention the CM
version you are currently running as support for 4.x is more mature than
5.x which was integrated in release 9.0.

Cheers,

Subject: [cisco-voip] CM/IPT monitoring tools

Hi guys,

Can you tell me what monitoring tools you use to keep an eye on your
CM/IPT system? RTMT is fine for broad brush stuff but I am looking for
tools that are a bit more granular.

I have tried the Cisco Operations Manager and find it to be somewhat
lacking. As with most CiscoWorks tools it doesn't seem to have much in
the way of fine tuning capability.

More specifically I am looking for tools that can give me specific
alerts on PRIs going down, MGCP gateways losing connection, specific
phones deregistering. But I don't want tools that will give me 100
alerts an hour.

I have tried to get use my SNMP poller(SolarWinds) to check these
statuses but I haven't had much luck in finding the right MIBs.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
