i went down this road once. there are images that support the command (ie
no error from the cli), but don't actually support the concept. in fact,
if you turn it on, your router will stop routing. cef is needed in order
for the reverse-path code to work, but the ios image doesn't take that
into account. someone out there did forward me an old 11.1 image for igs
boxes (that happens to run on 2500s) that actually supported cef and
reverse-path. but it was very old and missing other stuff. plus it was
compressed, so it had to run from ram which was a pain. someone at cisco
said they would fix things so that reverse-path would not be a valid
command unless cef was actually available and turned on.
