you ruined the symbolic link for /etc/passwd which
is linked to /var/etc/master.passwd
go to shell and su as root
type
ln -s /etc/passwd /var/etc/master.passwd
or was it
ln -s /var/etc/master.passwd /etc/passwd
anyways, one of those above commands will take care
of it.
