NC-173 dials

Need a BS and main tuning dial for NC-173.  Will the NC-183 (not the -D) also work? 
 
Does anyone have a pet method to clean heavy nicotine from the dials?  Has anyone successfully patched or spliced  a   dial  that has a crescent shaped piece completely broken when previous owner forced the dial against the pinch drive?
