Shipping older radios & insurance claims

A retired judge once chimed in on a thread about shippers denying claims for
insufficient packing. He said when these cases ended up in his court he us
ually ruled against the shipper because they accepted the packing job in
whatever state it was in when they accepted an insurance premium to cover damage.
All risk then became theirs so they pay regardless of fault. I realize you
can't do this in every case but next time it happens if the amount warrants it
have your attorney send them a letter. They cough up quick with a letter from
an attorney and don't ask questions. Last time I did it the amount was $1500
and after the usual denial (probably automatic hoping you will just go away,
most probably do) a letter from my attorney to their office produced a $1500
check via overnight letter. But... woudn't we really prefer to just get the
equipment here without having to worry about whether we will have to sue
somebody or not? Jeesh, it's a hobby!!
