73 ending

Hello all;

     I don't know about the rest of you but I would prefer hearing someone
end his FM voice contact with 73 to the way most new Hams end their FM
conversations.
"73" reminds me of the history of amateur radio, and since 73 means
best regards I think that it's a lot friendlier than " later dude".
My only criticism to using "Q" codes, 73 , or any of the other terms
commonly used by the HF community is that most newcomers don't know
their meaning and so find these terms confusing and snobish.
However, now that the Tech. license is the entry level license perhaps
we should consider using those terms more often, just to encourage the
"Newbies" to learn about H.F. practices, and to point out that there is more
to Ham radio than VHF/UHF radio out there ... Hi .. HI
and Mike, Please don't take what I say next as a criticism,
it is just my personal feeling.
     I would just like to point out that as one of the " crusty old croaks" who have
spent our whole life, in my case, nearly 70 years, in the southwest the term
 "dude" realy raises my hackles!!! [;-)
