John is right. The single, rugged, tube will do fine and likely last your
lifetime.
The net is full of people crying about bad 572s, so why bother?
HOWEVER, the simple little AL-811 is HALF the money for 3/4 the power and
almost no one you talk to will be able to tell the difference between 600
and 800W. 811-As are near bulletproof old tubes and also likely to outlast
you, given any reasonable care. I ran them in a modulator for a big AM rig
when I was a kid. Way overpowered at 1600V, zero bias, red plates. Still
have one of them, at least 60 years old, worked fine last week.
So for my money, the AL-811, with enough dough left over to buy a pretty
nice rig or a LOT of beer!
