Yep, you're running 12.3(1a) which suffers from CSCeb28546, so
upgrade to more recent 12.3 mainline. I suppose I'd go to
the latest, 12.3(10).

No. I did see that your modem firmware was up to date (2.9.5.0),
so maybe that's what got serviced.

Everyone has their own preferred methods I suppose. Here's what
I'll do when upgrading if I want to be particularly conservative.
First I'll reconfigure the router to try to boot from tftp ...
something like this:
boot system tftp c5300-is-mz.123-7.3 171.68.191.135
Then I'll reload the 5300 off of TFTP and see if it comes
up fine. If things are horribly broken, then I'll just
rename the file on the TFTP server and cycle the router,
and it will boot off the old image in flash. If it runs
well on the image booted from TFTP, I'll copy the image
from TFTP into router flash and get rid of the "boot system tftp"
command. Ideally you will have room in flash: and/or bootflash:
to store both the old and new IOS images simultaneously.
