Both Extreme and Foundry look like worthy competitors for the Cisco L3
switches. In fact we recently tried an Extreme Summit 48si, and in many
areas (eg. number of MAC addresses, number of simultaneous VLANs) it is
considerably *more* capable than 3550. Unfortunately it also had what is
a showstopper for us: It is unable to handle multiple VLAN tags (stacked
VLANs, Cisco "QinQ") when all of them are Ethertype 0x8100.

I mentioned HP because it has a significantly lower price point (and
also only very basic L3), while Extreme and Foundry look like they are
in the same price range as Cisco.
