Thanks for the help, but:

cat35#vlan data
cat35(vlan)#vlan 1003 parent 1005
VLAN 1003 modified:
     Parent VLAN 1005
cat35(vlan)#vtp v2
V2 mode enabled.
cat35(vlan)#exit
VLAN 1003 ring number missing
APPLY failed.
Exiting....

Tried removing vlan.dat:

cat35#del flash:/vlan.dat
Delete filename [vlan.dat]?
Delete flash:/vlan.dat? [confirm]
cat35#vlan data
cat35(vlan)#vtp v2
V2 mode enabled.
cat35(vlan)#exit
VLAN 1003 parent VLAN missing
APPLY failed.
Exiting....
at35#vla data
cat35(vlan)#vlan 1003 parent 1005
VLAN 1003 modified:
     Parent VLAN 1005
cat35(vlan)#exit
APPLY completed.
Exiting....
cat35#vlan data
cat35(vlan)#vtp v2
V2 mode enabled.
cat35(vlan)#exit
VLAN 1003 ring number missing
APPLY failed.
Exiting....

Any other ideas?
