The box has several ways of carving up the TCAM.  You can look at
the current setting with the 'show sdm prefer' command.  This page
provides some detail:

We've got one 3550 with about two dozen routed interfaces, 2500
routes, and roughly 4000 ARP entries which does just fine.  If we
let the routes creep up above 3000, things tend to fall apart.
