Thanks... I'll take a look.... I upgraded from 12.4(5a) to latest 12.4.7
so hopefully it was just  a bug in IOS....;)

You should be cecking your 'show stack' output to see whether the memory
addresses below reflect in that output. I know this doesn't answer your
question 'Why', but thought would be useful information.
