You can get autonomous image on to the new APs but the future is not certain.  

However. .. with controller based APs (either local like cisco or cloud based like meraki or aerohive) you don't need to hit single APs in this manner. .. You just add profile to the APs or join APs to a profile and then just update the profile using the controller API or various other methods.
