[c-nsp] DFC3C-XL refuses to operate in XL mode

Hi,

I am building a new 7606S chassis, with RSP720-3CXL (12.2(33)SRE10) and
a few X6704-10GE linecards.

Most of 6704-10GE cards are equipped with DFC3C-XL modules.

The problem is that two DFC3C-XL modules are unwilling to operate in
3C-XL mode. Both DFC's are from different sources, so I highly doubt
both are faulty the same way.

But both show the same symptoms. Although they are 3C-XL versions, they
work as 3C only..which degrades PFC operating mode of the whole chassis
to PFC3C. As soon as I swap DFC on respective 6704 card to some other
piece, it works OK.

What confuses me the most is this log record ->

*Feb 25 02:15:11.324: %OIR-SP-6-DOWNGRADE_EARL: Module 6 PFC installed
is not identical to system PFC and will perform at current system
operating mode.

WS-X6704-10GE with WS-F6700-DFC3CXL is in the SLOT 4. RSP720-3CXL-GE
with 7600-PFC3CXL is in the SLOT 6.

Why is the switch complaining that PFC in slot6 (Supervisor) is not
identical to system PFC (Supervisor?)?

After a reload with card inserted and powered, the chassis loads to PFC3
mode.

PFC operating mode : PFC3C

As soon as I remove the card, reload, the chassis loads to PFC3C-XL
mode. When the card is inserted, it's powered down, to prevent DFC
mismatch. Even when the DFC and PFC version is the same..both XL.

Any thoughts what can be wrong? Other than 'two faulty DFC modules'. As
I said, both are from different sources and we have used both previously
so it's really unlikely.

Thanks!

Jiri
