should work fine.  Manually set the interface media type on both sides to
be rj-45, and make sure that the cable is a cross-over gigabit:

(Gigabit T568A crossover / All four pairs crossed).

Autoneg shouldn't fail but if it does, you can safely hard-code the speed
and duplex settings.
