[cisco-voip] Video conf. equipment for IP/VC

One of our School Districts bought some Sony's a year or so ago. Didn't
like them. They had some issues with other devices / MCU's. Mic was
built on to the camera which causes a lot of echo.

IMHO stick with the Tandberg or polycom.

Scott

At CIPTUG, I found out that Sony has a skinny unit as well that
registers to CallManager (or so they said). Take a look at a google
search for Sony + CallManager
<http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:
2005-40,GGLG:en&q=sony+callmanager> for lots of links.

The only thing I didn't like was that they didn't support CDP, so they
can't negotiate VLAN access on the port. The data network for that port
has to allow access to your CallManager network.

We currently have a couple of Polycoms but will be getting a
Tandberg shortly. Both seem to be good. It really comes down to
features. I'm hoping I can get rid of the old Vtel units we have soon.
Stay away from VTEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice thing with the Tandberg we demo'd the other day is it can
register directly with CM.

I am planning to setup a 3511 IP/VC to handle 4 branch offices
and their video conference needs. I currently have a Polycom Viewstation
EX, but with the upcoming IP/VC installation, I didnt know if buying 3
more of those was the right idea. What is everyone using out there for
video conferencing with their IP/VC? Tandbergs? Polycoms? Does getting
MeetingPlace really help in small conferences?

	thanks for the advice.
