[cisco-voip] overhead paging system integration

Mark,

I have several sites with overhead paging systems. I have linked them to CCM using an ATA186 hooked to a Valcom paging adaptor (the exact model number I cannot remember right now). I just put a phantom DN on the ATA and program a speed dial on all phones that need access. They press the speed dial and are greeted almost immediately by the Valcom "talk tone". The paticular model I am using has feedback reduction. I highly recommend using a phantom number, because if someone on the outside dials into it you could have a problem. This has been working perfectly for the last couple of years. I tried to use an FXS port on a 3725 once, but I had problems with the port not disconnecting properly and getting hung up. I switched to the ATAs and have had no more problems. If you would like I can get the Valcom model number I am using, just let me know. Hope this helps!

Jason

Subject: [cisco-voip] overhead paging system integration

After having exhausted all my normal avenues of research (including
TAC), I thought perhaps someone here has run into the same problem I'm
currently tackling. I have a site recently migrated to CCM from an
older Siemens PBX. The site has a custom overhead paging system that is
as simple as can be imagined -- tip and ring link to speakers and when
this is connected to with the old system, voice is transmitted over the
paging system. We initially thought we could just link to an ATA-186 or
an FXS port, but this thing looks like it is off-hook constantly, so you
can't only do that. I also tried to put a Valcom V-9940 Paging Adapter
in the middle, but my layer 1 skills are limited and the solution failed
(I may have selected the wrong wiring configuration). My question to
the list is, has anyone come up with a method to link CCM into overhead
paging systems, and if so, would you be willing to share your solution?

Thank you,
Mark
