[cisco-voip] CCM - ad hoc conference

Something to add to this. There is also a rule that calls cannot span resources, so, the max participant value is used when assigning a conference call to a resource. If there is not at least <max participant> spaces available on a resource, it will not use it. The danger in upping the value to 16 is that you can end up wasting resources - there could be 15 calls available on a resource (almost half!) but because you can not have 16 calls, the potential max, it will skip to the next resource.

If you are using software resources - you'll have to find out what the max of a server is - they suggest not using a publisher or subscriber for that.

If you are using hardware resources, I opened a case about this. The 'official' stance is max 6 participants for a 6608 and 3.3.X and 16 for a 6608 and 4.1.X. However, when I contacted the TAC they said you could put as many as you want up to 32.

From Cisco CallManager System Guide, Release 4.1(3) - Cisco DSP Resources for Transcoding, Conferencing, and MTP
a.. For a G.711 or G.723 conference-32 conferencing participants per physical port; maximum conference size of 16 participants
b.. For a G.729 conference-24 conferencing participants per physical port; maximum conference size of 16 participants

    Hi list,

what is a reasonable limit for the maximum number of attendees to an ad hoc conference on the CCM ?

I have a customer that would like to go up to 8 to 10 attendees, and the default limit is 4. Is there a risk for CCM, the gateway or something else?

    Vincent
