[cisco-voip] MGCP VG224 advice

FYI

I had to add these commands to BOTH my pstn gateway (3745) and the
VG224. This is what the engineer sent me below.....

The 'no ccm-manager fax protocol cisco' disables the default fax
protocol cisco which is used for fax relay. That command should not be
required when using Fax pass-through on MGCP gateway.

The 'mgcp modem passthrough voip codec g711ulaw' hard code the codec
type to be used for the faxes. Each fax machine displays the remote fax
machine ID on its LCD screen at the completion of the fax negotiation
phase. It is unlikely that the fax machines could complete negotiation
if the fax codec had not been successfully downloaded.

To configure properly the MGCP Gateway for Fax Pass-Through these
commands must be added to the gateway.

no ccm-manager fax protocol cisco

mgcp modem passthrough voip mode nse

mgcp modem passthrough voip codec g711ulaw

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

If you can fire through those commands, would be good to have for future
reference.

This is helpful. I had some intermittent fax issues with the VG224
running MGCP. After opening a case with TAC they gave me a couple of
commands and things have been pretty good since running MGCP. If anyone
needs it I can dig up the email.

This is a feature list comparison of H323, MGCP, and SCCP on the VG224.

If you are considering fax machines or modems, your only choice (that
will work) is SCCP. If it is analog phones only, then consider yourself
lucky!

We recently received our first VG224 which I am getting it setup, but I
am wondering what are the differences in adding it as an MGCP device
verses adding it as a SCCP device in terms of both operation and
administrative overhead. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone,

Brian
