The switches may not be responding to the CDP packets from the switch. You might want to get a sniffer trace from the back of the phone, put a hub in place between the phone & the switch port. The hub will allow the sniffer to capture the CDP communication.

Subject: [cisco-voip] Dead 7912? (BACK AGAIN!)
So, I'm having the same problems with the 7912, only this time it's not booting whatsoever. It powers on, gets to configuring IP and then power cycles somewhere along the line.
Is there any advanced troubleshooting that I can do for this phone, like force reloading the firmware? I've already tried resetting to factory defaults. I'm kinda thinking that this phone was the victim of a power spike in a snow storm. No surge protector, etc.
Anyone have any input?
Thanks!

Subject: Dead 7912?
I have a 7912 that takes forever on boot-up cycle and never actually completes the boot-up cycle. Does anyone have directions for manually forcing a reload of the firmware on the 7912?
I have a TAC case ID that discusses this for the 7970 with the following steps (this obviously doesn't work for the 7912):
1. Power off the phone.
2. Hold down the # key.
3. While holding #, connect an AC adaptor to the phone.
4. Continue to hold # until the line buttons blink amber.
5. Release the # key.
6. Enter 3491672850*#
7. The lights should change color from amber to red. When this occurs, the phone is resetting to factory defaults.
Anyone have any information that will assist me?
Thanks!
