your subscriber will have to be installed from scratch using 4.2(1) disks.
This would work, other than the fact 4.2(3) is now shipping:
Customer is entitled to free upgrade so long as they purchased a
contract. Use the Product Upgrade Tool to get them.

give it your contract number and request a set of 4.2 install disks.
So you have a choice:
1. restore your BARS backup, then upgrade to 4.2(3) and install
subscriber using disks from the Product Upgrade Tool above.
2. contact TAC and request 4.2(1) install media. Make sure you specify
that you need 4.2.1 and not 4.2.3.
