[cisco-voip] Resetting All Phones on a System

I'm sorry to keep asking so many questions, but.....are you saying that
the phones register, but are not working or are you saying that the
phones register and working, but not working properly? I am looking to
restart absolutely no more than 50 at a time and I will probably start
with 5, 10, 20, etc. Thank you for your help!

The will likely register, as ours did, and there's little to do but wait
for calls.

If you reset them a few times, you should be OK.

The phones that don't get the upgrade or don't get it
correctly......do they register to the system? I ask this so that I can
look at the phones that I reset and make a judgment about whether the
phones are working and whether I should continue resetting the next
group of phones. Other than examining individual phones or waiting for
people to complain on Monday, how else can I double-check as I go?

We did exactly this on Saturday when we did our DST upgrade. We
have about 400 phones. We ended up with 3 phones not getting the
firmware upgrade correctly, and about 10 phones not getting the upgrade
at all. The 3 phones that didn't get it correctly just cycle throught
eh upgrade process over and over, basically they are hosed. We tried to
do a hard reset on them to get them back to factory firmware, but it
didn't work.

I will say that other than that, and a couple of minor issues,
the DST upgrades went very well. We upgraded CM as well as the OS while
we were at it. IPCC Express was the biggest issue to fix.

Any reason why I shouldn't load the software in advance
and do some testing? I really don't need any surprises. It is my
understanding that I need this update for the phones to show the correct
date, but I haven't seen much chatter about the firmware aspect of the
DST situation. Thanks for your help!

Be prepared for TFTP timeouts. Try to reset them a few
at a time, via devicepools perhaps. You run the risk of some phones
getting their upgrades and others not. Now, we have over 7000 phones, so
that could have had something to do with it, but even at 1200, I'm sure
the TFTP server will be taxed a bit.

We ended up reseting all the phones a few times to try
and force them to upgrade. We ended up with a few phones upgraded but
without ring tones and others that did not upgrade at all.

Is there any down side to simultaneously
resetting every phone on the
system? We have approximately 1200 phones in
our little cluster - 800
in our main location, 200 in our other one and
then about 30 phones at
an SRST site. We are going to be upgrading the
firmware and I'm trying
to anticipate any problems that might occur.
Thank you!

The version 2.0 VT advantage cameras (or perhaps
the 2.0 of VTA
software?) did make a change and allow the
camera to be seen by other
products. The previous ones were locked down to
only the VTA app, I can
			say from experience.

I think it depends on the drivers your app uses
and whether they support
the camera or not. While it may be Logitech
hardware the Logitech
drivers won't recognize the VTA camera as such.

I have been told by many people and everything I
have read has seemingly
confirmed that the Cisco VT Advantage cameras
can't be used by any
software other then the Cisco software.

It just so happens that for the first time I had
my camera plugged in
and launched skype, skype saw the camera and
used it. I was able to
make skype voice / video calls with the Cisco VT
camera.

This may be old news for some, but it was an
interesting discovery
personally since for a couple of years now I
have been told something on
the cameras (firmware possibly) prevented them
from being used by
			anything else.
