[cisco-voip] Load server

Toby,

Also to clarify why the phones are failing.

In firmware version 7.x there was a 10 minute timeout per file. So
typically what this meant was a link over 180-200ms will fail. Cisco has
fixed this in two different ways with version 8.x of code.

In version 8 this limit is gone Also they added Peer Firmware sharing.

The later allows one phone to download and then broadcast that it has the
firmware. It then turns it self into the "load" server for the other phones
in the local subnet only

In other words you go through the trouble once to get it on 8.x code and you
should not need to do it again

Download the .zip file with the load files from CCO then set up a Local TFTP
server (Either IOS or PC/Server) with those unzipped files. Point each phone
to the local tftp IP address and define the specific load name and then
reset each phone.

Subject: [cisco-voip] Load server

Hello all,

I am having issues with 7961s upgrading firmware over the WAN. I believe
this has to do with tftp errors during the download process.

I have heard mention of a way to offload the firmware download to a local
"load server". I can't find any docs explaining how to accomplish this.

Anyone on the list have a link or experience with this?

Thanks in advance,

Toby
