[cisco-voip] Phone proxy with ASA

Hi Scott,

That's why I'm asking for. We have been using, and licencing, Phone Proxy product for some time but stopped some orders for some customers but I don't know what kind of licensing this feature will have ...

Hope the BU had an answer. They shouldn't wait until the product is on the street, should they?

So ... anyway, we will wait for them :-)

  Regards,

    Carles

phone proxy comes with 25 licenses to start then you can buy additional licenses.

as for the ASA..... I don't know if the BU has an answer for that yet as the product (ASA version 8.0.4) is not currently out yet anyway.

:-(

Scott

	Hello,

I have asked our SE about the licensing policy, if any, and the answer was ... "I have no idea". Any thoughts? I have to answer about this to some of customers but I don't like to say "I don't know" ...

Can anyone point me to a PowerPoint slide or some other picture description for the Phone Proxy. I need some visual aids to show to some people internally. :)

I'd urge you to go with the ASA. CUPP won't receive any further
enhancements and the ASA PhoneProxy is the future. CUPP works fine and
does what it does very well (I'm biased), but there is no roadmap for
that product, it is end of life, and therefore you'll find yourself
alone on an island if you need any enhancements made to the product.

Of course, CUPP is so damn cheap it may not make much of a difference
			:).

			Take care,

			Louis

PS. My team and I created CUPP when we were Metreos, back then called
the Metreos SCCP Proxy, and released CUPP once we were acquired by
Cisco. I love the product, primarily because it's a joy to work on and
and I think we were rather clever in how we built it :), so I am quite
biased on this topic... knowing that I hope you take my urging to wait
for the ASA PhoneProxy, a product that I am NOT involved in (different
			Cisco technology group).

Humm... well aint that a pickle. I'd love a confirmation on this as
well. I am torn between getting CUPP now or waiting for the ASA
functionality, however this could change things for me as well.

Have I got that right then?

So the ASA proxy-ing is actually TLS proxying which needs UCM
5.x or greater. Whereas the CUPP does some other sort of proxying and
so is compatible with versions lower than 5. I've been waiting to
decide whether to buy a CUPP or wait for the ASA functionality but
seeing as though I'm running 4.1.3 that could be my decision made for
			me...
