[cisco-voip] FW: CUOM supporting HP Procurve - CDP MIBS

Guys, keep in mind from a superficial level that the HP switches support
LLDP. I don't know, however, how extensive the HP switches utilizing the
LLDP will work and play well in the QoS environement.

To speak to Noobs comment, it's only $500, but when a customer is replacing
100 switches.that can be a deal breaker / maker.

If you're trying to justify sticking with the Cisco switches, talk to the
Cisco account team for the customer. They will have people dedicated to
proving why the HP switches won't work and play well in your environment.

If the inverse is true, go to HP and they'll tell you why they can do
everything the Cisco switches can do (and if they're REALLY good.they will
tell you what they CAN'T do so that you can position the deal accordingly.go
in armed with info).

Either way, if this is specifically regarding the Ops Manager product,
you're SOL. The Ops Manager is a Cisco product geared towards Cisco
implementations, you're not putting in HP OpenView or something similar that
is generic SNMP device monitoring. You're putting in a product that is
designed to monitor and maximizing your end to end Cisco Product
implementation.

Just my 2 pennies obviously, but HTH.

Using non Cisco switches with Cisco phones is like having a Cadillac
Escalade with wagon wheels on it instead of tires. It might get you around
but you will have a ton of headaches from the ride.

Use cisco switches. Problem solved. The cost is about $500 more list for a
cisco 2960 then the HP equivalent.

Hi All,

I'm not sure if this would be the right forum but thought would try my luck
just in case if someone had some experience or ideas. Customer wants to
replace his Access layer switches with HP ProCurve products. We hope to
replace their edge switches with HP ProCurve 2910al product (or 3500yl
alternatively).

A potential showstopper is Cisco Unified Operations Manager (CUOM) not
supporting ProCurve switches. We need to have it map Cisco VoIP phones to
the switch ports. As far as we could see, the 2910al does support the
Cisco-CDP MIBS and propagates the connected Phones. However we didn't manage
to get CUOM to support the 2910al in that respect.

Does anyone know of a workaround for CUOM to support the above products or
may be how it organizes switch support in general (particularly having Cisco
IPT's connected)?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
Subhrojyoti
