David's quote was for going from a 4.1 pub with Unity to BE. Can't use DMA with BE. 

Sounds about right for how much work it can be.

but I hear you on the other costs. if you bought Cisco hardware, those were EOL'd a lot quicker than HP hardware (which Cisco doesn't EOL, the just stop supporting on new versions) 

the cost of upgrading is just going to get higher and higher, especially if you want to upgrade to N+2 versions or higher. 

Cisco is really pushing UCSS and CUWL so you never have to worry about things like this. Building a yearly cost associated with your phone system basically and being able to upgrade to whatever version you want. 

while i understand all the arguments pertaining to cost to support, Cisco has to understand that very few people run to install vX.0 of anything unless absolutely necessary, so by the time a vX.1 version is out, it's EOL is not far off. a phone system is not like a pc where upgrading is not that big of an issue. I can see the big difference between v4 and v5 but the idea to never have a vX.2 out is a bit of a drag. they're releasing major versions a lot faster and expecting people to climb on board.

A small installation, maybe 75 phones. To go to 7 was almost $35,000. Of course, some of this included the VAR's work (from previous posts it does sound like you have to spend a lot of time manually re-entering lots of information). This was also to go from Full CCM and Unity to the Business Edition. So yes, I was horrified! Maybe I need to look for a different VAR, though he has always seemed to steer me right.
