There are some Gig ports that aren't auto MDI/X capable. 
Specificly, I've had a bunch of Cisco 1000-Base-T GBICs that weren't. 

Granted, for something sold in this format at Amazon, the market is
probably people that don't know any better, but I have made many
4-pair cross-over cables for said Cisco gear to function.
