In case anyone else has a softkey issue with the 9971.

Some features like Transfer and Conference have dedicated buttons on the phone and the features may not be available through the softkey templates.

The 9971 User Guide describes the buttons and also makes reference to the Divert feature.

Here's a link to the User Guide for CUCM 7.1.3:

Check the phone's Status Messages (settings->admin settings->status->status messages) for any errors, particularly related to the cnf.xml file.

Hi,
I think the problem is not at the gateway since the IP phone 9971 can not get the redundant CCM Server info so it won;t contact the SRST gateway at all upon no connection to the CUCM.

The softkey I used work for 7965, 7942 and 7945. One important feature such as "iDivert" is not available with phone button template though :(
I tested the mobility softkey works using the phone button template.

I don't recall if 7.1(3b)SU2 includes the fix or not but you need to be on a later 7.1(3) ES to get the Mobility softkey for 99XX phones.

Hi Denny,

1) Did you use this slightly different configuration on your SRST gateway?

2) What type of softkey template are you trying to use? When you say it works on other phone models are they other 99xx or 89xx model phones? Most of the features for the 99xx/89xx phones are under the feature control policy, otherwise former softkeys like mobility have to go on the session buttons (like a phone button template).

I have just implemented Cisco 9971 phones and realized few problems.
1. The phone could not get the SRST information from CallManager thus this phone could not registered during SRST. I checked on the phone information displayed and the standby server option is blank. The other phone models (older) work fine.
2. The custom softkey template applied for 9971 phone does not work. Tested with other phone models, they are all good.

i have tried to reset TFTP service, reset the phone until rebooting the CUCM server but no luck with the above problems.
I am using CUCM 7.1.3b SU2. The 9971 firmware is SIP 9.0.2 (latest). The gateway is cisco2921 IOS c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.150-1.M2.bin. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Appreciate for any feedbacks.

Thanks,
Denny
