[cisco-voip] Issues with Peer Firmware Update, anyone?

So I wonder if we should avoid implementing this feature, hard to tell if this was a one off problem or something that could result in a resume altering event. 

The fact that it has a Severity 2 status gives me pause also, can I assume this is being actively investigated?

Looks like the RNE needs some TLC, look for an update in 24 hours. These happened from phones using Peer Firmware Sharing (PFS).  Had to touch each phone to get it back online.

CSCtg96408    Phone 7911 can't boot up after new images are upgraded


<B>Symptom:</B>
After upgrade the phone only shows a blank screen upon bootup.

<B>Conditions:</B>
Upgrading phone firmware and using Peer Firmware Sharing (PFS). In one instance this was an upgrade from 8.4.2 to 8.5.3

After the phone upgraded the firmware to 8.4.1 and restarted automatically. The symptom is as the following description.

The phone has no display and the console information stop in "NOT 15:43:26.300853 CDP-D: port 0 link is down, send SIGCONT " when connected to power adapter and POE cable. Customer firmware version used SCCP11.8-4-4S.

<B>Workaround:</B>
Initiate a factory reset of the phone, as described here:

CSCtg96408 showed up on Cisco Unifed Endpoints Hot Issues recently.  That issue is still under investigation but it is something to be aware of.

I haven't seen any issues with it, I make it the default.  No traffic on puck about it not working. Just wish out of box the phones peered versus crossing WAN at 512 bytes max size and acking every packet (tftp)

What kind of problems?? Please be specific, I just googled "cisco telephone peer firmware update problems" and did not see anything of note. 

I am planning on implementing this on my 7.1.5 cluster to hopefully speed up firmware updates. I tested this option in our lab using a test bed of 15 telephones and it resulted in a significant reduction in bandwidth utilized and time required to upgrade and down grade 7962 telephones. I experienced no issues in my testing.

Google it you will find a lot of people facing problems with it…if the number of phones is not a big issue let it upgrade one by one from CUCM…otherwise go for peer method as it may have been enhanced in new codes.
