[cisco-voip] 9971 support in 7.1(3b)

OK, so we ended up installing 7.1(3b)SU2 and the 9971 9.0.2 firmware. But, it appears that we need the latest device pack for 9971 video support. Typically when adding a new device type you need to reboot after a device pack installation. But, can anyone confirm if I can simply install the 7.1.3.33024-1 device pack to add the 9971 video support WITHOUT rebooting the cluster?

>From the release notes:

When applying this Device Package to enable new device support, a cluster-wide reboot is required for those devices to register successfully. A clusterwide reboot IS NOT required when running to update existing firmware/support.
I am technically not enabling new device support, I am updating existing support. I guess it depends on how you read it. I need to plan for downtime again if I need to reboot after this device pack is installed.

Thanks,
Kevin

This is expected. There are two ways to introduce support for a new device to CUCM. The first is by upgrading to a version that includes support. This could be in an ES on the same train, or a new version. In this case 7.1(3b)SU2 includes the ES that added support for these phones.

The second way is by installing a device pack that adds support.

Actually no. I took a CM 7.1.3.30000-1 (no SU1 or SU2), didn't have those phones as an option in the dropdown box to add a phone. Leaving CM at 7.1.3.30000-1, I only installed device pack 7.1.3.33024-1, rebooted, and I could add the phones as they now show up in the dropdown list of phones to add.

kinda looks like you need to have added SU2 to the system.

I just mocked up a 7.1(3b) server without SU1 or SU2. No option to add an 8900/9900 series phone. Installed device pack 7.1.3.33024-1, rebooted, and the option was there to add these new phones.

Thanks,
Kevin

Customer is running 7.1(3b) and would like to use 9971 phones. Will 7.1(3b)SU2 add the support for these phones, or do I need 7.1(3b)SU2 plus the latest device pack? Or can I just leave CUCM running 7.1(3b) without SU1 or SU2 and only install the latest device pack?

Thanks,
