I am not talking UCCX only...almost all UC products are going that way L

While I agree it's a bad idea to tie the mac to timezone and especially
bad to tie it to a thing like NTP server, you can set the timezone per
call flow / script instead of worrying about the server's timezone. I
had a client who decommissioned their primary DNS and NTP server and had
to have the license rehosted.

But that will create a problem in the time zone parameter.

As Cisco never get it right for DST changes for each country...sometimes
I have to implement a workaround by changing the time zone to whatever
in order to reflect the correct clock on the system...this means if I
did so every time I will have to open a case to rehost the license! I
think it was a bad idea to add the time zone to the list.

This isn't that big of a deal. Is your environment that unstable that
you are constantly making changes to your configuration? Also it's not
that hard to get licenses moved around.

Just FYI - if you change any of the values back to the old value, it
buys you another 30 days. It's a nice workaround to a fairly messy
problem.

But as you went to the Temp license nothing failed. So if you change
something the system does not stop working while on the Temp license
giving you time to get a new permanent license from TAC.

I just changed the gateway ip and it went back to temp license. Again I
had to run behind TAC. After few hours we were able to get the license.
Luckily our setup was not under production at the time I made the
change. Otherwise I would have been screwed up. Cisco has to find a
better way of overcoming this.

You will know because your call center will have been out of service by
that time L

But what if I generated the license using the license MAC and then after
a year or so I want to change any of the below parameters...will this be
allowed for re-hosting?? If so then what is the reason for that change
from the beginning!!!!

It does not; this started in 8.0, for CCM it's only for VMinstalls, for
CCX it's for all. You do have 30 days to rehost if you aren't aware of
the change. You will also see a license warning if you login and a
change you don't know about has occurred.

You have got to be kidding!

________________________________

But in this new version the license gets associated to something we
call now 'License MAC', which is a 12 digit HEX value created by
hashing a great deal of parameters that you configure on the server,
including: Time zone, NTP Server 1 (or 'none'), NIC speed (or 'auto'),

Hostname, IP Address, IP Mask, Gateway Address, Primary DNS, SMTP
Server (or 'none'), Certificate Information (Organization, Unit,
Location, State, Country), etc. If there's a change on any of these
parameters, the License MAC also changes and you will need to request a
re-host license to the Cisco licensing team in no more than 30 days.
